Hypnotherapy Hypnotherapy is the therapeutic use of hypnosis. A hypnotherapist treats problems by accessing and reprogramming the subconscious mind, enabling unwanted habits, irrational fears, phobias or negative thoughts to be overcome. Unlike other forms of mind therapy such as CBT or counselling, which can often be slow to produce results, hypnotherapy deals directly with the subconscious mind and can produce fast and dramatic results. Hypnosis Hypnosis is a totally natural phenomenon which we all experience as part of our every day lives. It is an altered state of consciousness, producing profound physical and mental relaxation. In hypnosis, the body is deeply relaxed but the mind is sharpened and more focused and there is a heightened sense of awareness. Typical hypnotic states include from simple daydreaming to being totally engrossed in a task - for example whilst driving a car, watching a TV programme, reading a book or simply listening to music. Hypnosis, in the hands of a qualified and experienced hypnotherapist, is a highly effective and safe tool which has been used for thousands of years to benefit people. Contrary to popular belief, hypnosis does not involve being asleep or unconscious; neither can you be made to say or do anything which is unacceptable to you. Everyone can be hypnotised to a greater or lesser extent, with the exception of people who are unable to maintain a focus of attention such as very small children, people whose mental faculties are grossly impaired or those who are highly intoxicated. Although the depth of the hypnotic state may vary from one person to the next you are always aware of what is happening and you are in complete control at all times. |
