First of all let's have a reality check!

The weight loss and diet industry in the UK and abroad has been in existence for many years now and has spawned a huge variety of diet plans and weight loss programmes, many of which are household names, along with the personalities which run them.

It is big, big business and they have a vested interest in not just enrolling you in their programmes but keeping you locked in their system for as long as possible. Which begs the question – do these programmes work and if so, do they work permanently?

Most diets can help you to lose weight in the short term but what they don’t give you are the psychological tools to help deal with cravings or emotions so commonly associated with food and eating. Low calories diets are particularly bad. Your body responds to a low calorie diet by assuming that it is experiencing a famine, so it seeks to protect you by slowing down your metabolism in order to conserve and store more fat. When you finally quit these unnatural and unrealistic eating plans your metabolism remains slow and so you increase weight at an even faster rate than before, even though you may eating less!
